I gave in. I bought in to the hype. I couldn't stand seeing pictures posted of brooms standing up by themselves without taking a look to see what all the fuss was about. After reading a comment posted below such a picture, I discovered the secret. Apparently, as legend would have it, during a leap year, the Earth is tilted to such a degree that the gravitational pull can balance a common household broom. There's a trailing theory about the handle needing to be facing north, but I can neither confirm nor deny that being relevant. Believe what you will. It's still a neat trick.
